CURRENT PERSPECTIVES

“Evidence-Based Manifesto for School Librarians” by Ross Todd – SLJ –4/1/08

“Evidence-based practice means a shift in focus from information inputs to knowledge and skills outputs, such as mastery of curriculum content, critical thinking and knowledge-building competencies, mastery of complex technical skills for accessing and evaluating information, and using information to construct deep knowledge. EBP also includes outcomes that are related to reading comprehension and enrichment, as well as to the attitudes and values associated with information use and learning.”

“If school librarians can’t prove they make a difference, they may cease to exist.” Ross Todd

NYSED Curriculum, Instruction & Instructional Technology – SLMPE Rubric ACTION PLANNING “The SLMS analyzes data from the needs evaluation, identifies strengths and weaknesses of the program, and writes an action plan that includes the long-term goals and short-term (annual) objectives, and the monies needed to finance specific components of the program. The goals and objectives of the action plan comprise the bulk of the budget because they are the program priorities. The action plan is then communicated to the principal and staff, and monitored for progress.”
