Talk:Council Bylaws
From CRBSLS
Jean - I think you mean here that no member shall serve more than two consecutive terms. Which may mean that most of our council will turn over next time - as the following folks, Linda Fasano, Ann LaBelle, MAryJo Osinski, Tim Backus are all now serving their second consecutive term. Although I don't disagree with the concept.... LindaFox 20:04, 15 October 2006 (EDT)

Advisory Council Membership Issues
My changes were meant to update the language, not the concept of having term limits. The original version said the same thing in different words. It does create problems if everybody changes at once, but it's good for the organization as a whole.
On a related topic: In an email, Linda asked me to expand on my addition of a staff member from CDLC. I think that it's very important for communication between the school library systems and the 3Rs for someone from the CDLC staff to be on the Council. Membership helps us to stay in touch with what is happening in the schools of the region and helps us to make the connections between all types of CDLC libraries.
I agree with Jean. Communication bridging the various types of systems (schools- public-higher academic) is very important. Even though we have the technology to see what is in the various collections, it is my perception that many of our own colleagues and employees are not informed as to how to actually make things happen (e.g. ILL between and school and a public library patron who has accessed CaDiLaC). Where is the protocol? Who knows it? -Mary Jo - Nov. 28
Communication:
Under items being distributed it currently reads "budget, and evaluation," I don't know what is being evaluated. should it be "budget and evaluation,"
Also under communication, I would delete the last sentence. Who cares how things afre distributed? It is now commonly accepted to distribute things electronically.
Term Limits
We might need to have more of discussion about the concept of term limits. I put some language in the document to reflect term limits and I like the idea of turn over and new people as part of an organization. However, I also know that it is getting tougher and tougher to get people involved and we might not be able to get representation from certain areas (administrators?). I think it is worth looking at by people who have more of stake in this than myself. - Tim B. November 14 (I can't remember, how to make it print my name and date)
Term limits
I like the idea of term limits, but there is something to be said for longevity as a factor in organizational memeory. It is also hard to find new people. Dave Cole
Term limits
I think term limits will insure new perpectives. If it could be arranged that a percentage of the council would turn over in any particular year(s), that might prevent the problem of all newbees. In another arena, representation of school administrators would be highly desirable. - Mary Jo O. Nov. 28
